NO FOLLOW LINKS

I was surprised that even in 2011 there are so many people who are unaware of what link power actually is. Before you leave this page, watch the video because it could change everything you are currently doing and believe about social networks and how they are supposed to help you. Are they really helping you? Want to know for sure? If so, just click the play button.

If you care to spend time analyzing websites in regards to their links you will come to the knowledge of links from text or images on sites that

"follow" e.g do follow  and links that

DO NOT "follow" e.g  no follow

Well, in the above you are only seeing text with either a light blue or pinkish colour overlaying them.

In order for someone new at this to understand I have uploaded an image which comes from our Twitter account. All the links in the image below that are pink do not follow and while the blue ones follow.

           do follow links websites

If you want to know where I am getting this information from you can download Firefox and use a plugin developed by ZACHARY FOX which is very simple to use. I believe it is currently only working in Firefox 3 and not in 4 but you can still download older versions of Firefox. It could be possible Zach updated it but just in case, use version 3 Firefox.

Just get it installed and view any website that you want in Firefox , even Youtube as I have done below and and right click with your mouse for the NoDoFollow option and you will see whether the links do follow or are no follow. Interestingly the link that Youtube allow you to have for your website on your Youtube channel shows up as a "do follow" link. So, could it be if you have a very powerful Youtube channel (unlike Whois Bid) that the link could be very important to the page rank of your website? Good question.

Maybe I did not explain well enough what the difference is but to keep it very simple a "do follow" link gets noticed by search engines and if the page and website is already popular then the link will most definitely at some point boost your Google Page Rank while a "no follow" link supposedly has no merits. So if you have a highly ranked site with highly ranked pages you can sell links to others who need them for a high price. Apparently this is against Google policies but it is really impossible to police as no-one really knows what is going on behind the scenes. Don't be surprised that almost all major blogs and websites impose a no follow policy standard and the owners/webmasters can select who they want to share their pagerank with.

Some people might argue this is fair while others say it is unfair. Whatever the opinion is does not really matter. If you are building a website and want to get noticed i.e. you will have to work within an existing framework of search engine policy. So, if you have no friends to share page rank with you and no money to spend on secretly getting powerful backlinks then you will have to work 100X harder than people who already have their own successful network.

NO FOLLOW LINKS ARE COMPLETELY USELESS

Someone might come to a conclusion then that there is no point in spending time leaving replies in other people's blogs or websites. We are told that although the links to your site give no power to your ranking you are still getting exposure. You will see in your stats pages if people really do follow those links and you will probably find that hardly anyone ever does. It is probably 100 times harder these days to get a site noticed.

If this was 10 years ago I would not be saying this but considering the fact that in 2010 there have been millions upon millions of new websites added to the internet, anyone who is not able to make a Youtube video that instantly gets hundreds of thousands of views or has something so unique on their website that everyone is running in droves to get it or see it is going to have to slog it out.

MOST PEOPLE HAVE GIVEN UP ON SEO IN 2011

SEO is "Search Engine Optimization" and it has to do with getting more visitors from natural search using search engines like Google. SEO is not building social networks although social networks can drive a huge amount amount of traffic to your website if your network becomes popular- but for most people, that is not going to happen overnight unless you are fortunate . I am talking to "the rest of us" and especially people who have started something brand new in 2011. On the day that this was written I have been building this website for about 2 months. You can see the progress of a site that is not a blog and  now has over 50 pages of unique content by looking for my search engine spiders page.

TWITTER IS VERY DIFFERENT TO ME THAN FACEBOOK

Yesterday I made a page giving 10 reasons why you should join Twitter

By the way! If you read the above about Twitter, you ought to follow me and send me a Tweet if you have a question. I don't pretend to know everything but at least you might get a real reply which is worth more than gold to some people.

I do not have a Facebook account for this website because I do not like Facebook. Maybe some people will strongly disagree with me and tell me that I am losing out because I have not embraced Facebook but I am one of those people who prefers to keep my privacy and have the freedom to express my own opinions on this website. I also do not have the time to run a blog but am grateful to those who do and have experience in making successful blog sites. I am periodically reading your blogs and leaving comments that lead to WHOIS BID whether by link or by name. Almost all of the links the blogs give are "no follow" but at least they are giving people a chance to get more general exposure which is not going to hurt anyone building a new website.

Someone might come to a conclusion then that there is no point in spending time leaving replies in other people's blogs or websites but that is not entirely true although in a sense it is as well. Although the links to your site give no power to your ranking you are still getting exposure but it seems that you will have to work far 1000 times harder than anyone else to increase your website presence from natural search using nofollow links as a means of getting site traffic.
